July 14 - Eat Them Before They Fall Down!

I made something rather precariously assembled in honor of the first day of our Harry Potter movie marathon. In searching for British/Harry Potter themed fare, it seems the only substantial food they eat is Shepherds Pie, that lovely concoction of a meaty stew topped off with a crust of mashed potatoes. I've also come to the conclusion that since J.K. Rowling only ever describes characters in HP eating meat or candy, that there must be special weight management magicking going on at that school.

Anywho, I made a pulled pork stew with onions and carrots. Seasoned with rosemary and thyme (those classic medieval flavors). Standard mashed potatoes. The funky part is that I put the stew in ice cream cones and piped out the mashed potatoes on top like savory soft-serve ice cream. Unfortunately, ice cream cones are not designed to withstand the moisture content of stew, so they slowly began to sink, and we had to eat quickly.

Stay tuned for part 2, where we dine and watch Chamber of Secrets. I'm thinking a good old fashioned English breakfast is in order.

  1. I still need to see Deathly Hallows part 1? Where are you guys getting copies of these movies? Netflix? Also, as an aside, I really want a Luna Lovegood lion hat.

I also noticed that the embedded YouTube iframes are different sizes. In this post, they are 425x349 but in your last post, they were 640x390. I like the larger version because (1) it's larger and (2) it fits the aspect ratio of your camcorder (the 425x349 frame has black bars at the top and bottom of the video). The only thing with the larger-sized iframes is that they overflow into the right panel of your blog. I also realize there's a full-screen mode, but I dislike how if I start a video in non-full-screen mode in 360p, when I full-screen it, it automatically changes to 480p, causing a delay as the video rebuffers. My slowish Internet connection in my room sometimes can't support 480p.

  2. We just watched Deathly Hallows part 1 (not on netflix. Shh!) I've also decided Luna Lovegood is one of the better characters portrayed in the movies. Some, like Ginny, I liked better in the book than in the movie.

I just copy the embedded code from youtube's upload page, following whatever they give me. They recently changed the suggested format of their embedding, and that's what you see here. I'm not savvy enough to fix these kinds of things, particularly when I'm surreptitiously blogging at work.

  3. Oh wow - so you've already gone through the first six movies? Luna was my favorite character in the book, and I think Evanna Lynch did a fantastic job portraying her. Severus is also portrayed really really well.

Aha, I see. Are there people working around you in the lab all day long?
